Students of MAHE, Dubai win UAE National stage Multi-Comfort House Students Contest

The Architecture and Design students of MAHE, Dubai won the UAE National stage Multi-Comfort House Students Contest organized by Saint Gobain in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Properties for development of transcultural vibrant community development at Cultural Village, Dubai.

 The  Multi-Comfort House design competition is an annual event organized since 2005 by Saint-Gobain. The task for 14th International Edition of Multi-Comfort House Students Contest by ISOVER in close collaboration with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Properties Group was the development of a vision for a transcultural vibrant community development located in the perimeter of Cultural Village of Dubai.

 The National Stage had 55 registrations, out of which 32 shortlisted entries from 7 Universities of UAE presented their work at Dubai Municipality Training Centre at Al Jadaf on 15th April 2018.

 The objective of the contest was to follow the principles of Saint-Gobain’s ground-breaking Multi-Comfort House design. Keeping in mind the following:

  • energy efficient standards
  • superior indoor air quality
  • high levels of acoustic
  • visual and thermal comfort and other key sustainability features with unique architecture that fuses traditional Arabic culture with a contemporary design approach.

A panel of sustainability experts and design professionals decided on the winning teams. The winners of the first prize, Elvis Shrestha, and Radhika Mehta from MAHE, Dubai whose design project, ‘5-degree residences’ promoted 5 main objectives, promoting art and culture, sustainable, comfortable living and energy conservation. The design was aligned with the vision of Dubai 2021 with social, economic and environmental sustainability.

The second prize was won by Aman Sasan and Zahrin Judith Dsilva from MAHE, Dubai.

The third prize was received by student’s team from UAE University, Shamma Al Kaabi, Fatima Ba-Tuq and Maha Al Luwaimi. And a special prize was awarded to Yuan Periera and Fenil Patel also from MAHE, Dubai.

The top three designs will contest internationally with students from more than 30 countries like, Belgium, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and the UK, which will also take place in Dubai from 12th to 14th May 2018.
