Architecture has always been at the forefront of any civilization. Even when envisioning the past or future, it is never without the accompanying image of architectural landscapes that define the time. It is safe to say that architecture is closely connected to our way of living.

If you’re interested in studying architecture, or you’re a student of architecture considering future career prospects, the following are careers in architecture and related disciplines that you may be interested in pursuing –


This includes choosing the type of work you would like to do, whether it is Design, i.e. working on the concept of the project design and development, or Technical, i.e. working on resolving design details and construction administration.

This also extends to choosing what kind of design space you’d like to specialise in –

Working within built spaces to create aesthetic and functional style.

Product Designer

Reinventing and creating products, repurposing existing material to create artwork, architectural installations, furniture, packaging, etc.

Construction/ Project Manager

Coordinating the building process, choosing the right materials and craftsmen for projects, preparing contracts, tracking progress, and overall construction management.

Real-Estate Developer

Developing projects from initial design on drawing boards to final construction in building sites.

Visualisation Artist

Representing architectural projects by creating photorealistic imagery or 3D renderings to communicate design.

There are endless opportunities and fields of study that architecture students can pursue, leading to diverse career options. Architecture is a discipline that is a dynamic mix of creative and artistic design, and technical planning and construction, which goes beyond providing shelter, but reflecting culture, and how communities interact and exist in built environments.

If you are a prospective student of Architecture check out MAHE Dubai’s Bachelor of Architecture program from the School of Design & Architecture. Accredited by Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), the program aims to train students on the finer qualities of design aesthetics and functionality by teaching them the fundamentals of design from an architectural, interior and landscape perspective. With an emphasis on practical experience, the program allows students to explore their own design style, with a strong business foundation.

The School of Design & Architecture also offers programs in Interior Design to allow students to explore and understand contemporary interior space & design. The Bachelor of Design – Interior Design program teaches students the elements of design, and the planning and creation of an interior space. With a strong focus in art, design theory, and creative skills, the program also enhances students’ technical skills of computer graphics, rendering, and construction techniques. By involving students in research, dissertation, design and project management, the program trains students on professional practice and in building strong design portfolios.

Also offered is the Master of Arts – Interior Design program that allows students to further enhance and contribute to the various design possibilities and approaches in Interior Design, through design research and practice, and collaboration with industry professionals.
