MAHE Dubai students win prestigious grant

MAHE Dubai students win a prestigious grant from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE) for 2 projects.

It is an honor and a proud moment for Manipal Academy of Higher Education MAHE, Dubai as our third-year students of B.Tech Mechanical, have been shortlisted by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE) for a massive grant of USD 4,750 for 2 projects – one of the few international colleges’ in the Gulf region to achieve this feat!

The first project titled ‘Design and Fabrication of Rotary Type Humidifier in Arid Regions’ has received a grant of USD 3,650 from the total of USD 4,750. The project was made by SreejithSanal Kumar, Antony John Jose Thommana, Parvathi Anil Kumar, Fabin Terance, and Nafisa Shams. The second project titled ‘Centrifugal Humidifier’ has received a grant of USD 1,100. This project was developed by Reuben Francis D’Costa, Ananda Dhar, Vivian Christo Vincent, Peter George, Sahil Mahesh Shetty, Subbiksha Sugumar, Girrish Varadharajan, and Allen Mathew Charley. The grant is provided to outstanding achievers who work on sustainable research and solutions in the design and fabrication of rotary type humidifiers in arid regions and development of Centrifugal Humidifier, a project which is part of ASHRAE related technologies.

We are grateful to the faculty members of the B.Tech department for providing strategic support to our students. We are thankful to Dr. S. K. Pandey, Dean – STEM Programs, Prof. Sampath Suranjan, ASHRAE Student Chapter Coordinator, Mr. Alwyn Bangera for technical support and Dr. Rajiv Selvam, Program Director – Mechanical Engineering who guided our students to demonstrate brilliance and high standards of work through these 2 projects.

These projects have been selected by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning (ASHRAE) as part of the Undergraduate Program Equipment Grant. Over the last few years, ASHRAE has awarded many grants and financial support to over 400+ deserving students who are continually involved in innovation and research across various technological and engineering fields. This Grant will support the students who wish to make progressive development in the field of HVAC&R, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industry and help the public interest by aiding innovation. With the advent of technology, it’s important to understand how we can make our innovation more progressive but sustainable.

How do the Centrifugal Humidifiers help?

Centrifugal humidifiers use a spinning disk to atomize the water and transform it into millions of very small droplets that, blown by a built-in fan, are introduced into the environment, where they evaporate, humidifying and cooling the air. This avoids having stagnated water inside the unit.

MAHE Dubai has always been a hub for innovation, research, and incubation activities. We recognize talent and provide vital support to our students with every academic and non-academic endeavor. Getting rewarded by such a prestigious grant will certainly encourage our students to push their limits further.
