What is social distancing?
In layman’s terms, social distancing means staying home and away from others unless necessary. It means staying at least 6 feet apart from other people at all times unless they are someone you are quarantined with.
Why is social distancing important?
The purpose of social distancing is to flatten the curve. If we don’t reduce the number of COVID-19 cases, the hospitals will be overrun and unable to treat everyone who requires help. They will have to start choosing who lives and who dies.
The more people follow social distancing, the quicker this pandemic can be controlled. We maintain social distance not just for ourselves and our loved ones but also for the doctors and nurses who are on the frontline risking their lives for us every day right now.
How can you stay connected while following the rules?
We know it can be frustrating to be stuck indoors and isolated from everyone. But you know there are many ways to stay connected these days such as downloading apps that allow a large number of people to keep in touch with each other, you can call friends and family, host virtual concerts and open mics. Just feel free to get creative! It may not be the same as sitting in your friend’s living room and binge-watching your favourite show together, but Netflix also has added a feature called Netflix Party which allows you to link up with friends and host long-distance movie nights. Last but not least, we have social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and more. You can have one or all of the above.
There are numerous ways of staying connected despite social distancing, all you have to do is to pick your own routes and remain safe and sound at home, and begin the healthy lifestyle once this pandemic gets over.
